Last Minute Gift Ideas

Posted on December 23, 2008 at 4:26 pm by: Christina

It’s December 23rd and there are still a few people on your list that you haven’t bought a Christmas gift for. What do you do?

a) Compete with the swarming masses at the mall for last minute Christmas gift items.

b) Re-gift. That’s right, go through your cupboards and drawers and look for the fruit cake you got last year or the Starbucks card you got from the Secret Santa exchange at your office. Re-wrap the item and you’re done.

c) Give the gift that keeps on giving from the warmth of your home.

Does option C sound compelling? Well it should, and the fun part is you have lots of options. Here are my favorites:

Kiva Kiva lets you lend to an entrepreneur in the developing world – thus empowering them to get out of poverty. When you give someone a Kiva gift certificate, they can go online and choose the entrepreneur(s) they want to lend money to. And the best part is, once the entrepreneur pays you back, you can lend that money out again to another entrepreneur.

OxfamOxfam America has a delightful selection of items you can symbolically purchase as a Christmas gift to help out others in need. You can purchase items such as a sheep, camel or school supplies. And in doing so you will improve the lives of people living in poverty.

Camfed - Camfed works in sub-saharan Africa to bring educational and business opportunities to girls and young women. A gift donation to Camfed can help educate girls and turn the tide of poverty in sub-saharan Africa.

Best of luck with your last minute holiday shopping and I wish you a lovely and peace-filled holiday season,

Christina
