The Kaleidoscope

The Kaleidoscope

Change. Most of us resist it as long as we can. It can feel inconvenient, often messy, and sometimes even scary or painful. And yet, in reality, nothing in life stays the same. However, with a different perspective, even the tiniest change can be transformative, freeing and life-altering.

Change. A word many of us avoid. Dread. Pretend it isn't there. Leave it for someone else to do. Put it off until tomorrow. Not now. Not today. I'm busy. I'll do it later. Go away.   And yet, every day, often totally unplanned or uninvited, we are forced to confront the demand and need to change...the way we work, the way we think, the way we eat or sleep, even the way we feel and love.   So how can we more effectively deal with this word that carries so much weight for far too many of us?   Can we redefine its impact on our guts and our hearts? Must we give in? And how much will it hurt? How much will it cost? How much might we lose of our present condition if we change the way we live our lives? Or how or with whom we currently live those lives?   Consider this: when you peer through the lens of a kaleidoscope, all you will find at any given moment is a beautiful display of tiny crystals of all colors. That's it. It's just like looking through the lens of a camera at a landscape, offering a snapshot of any given moment in your day or life.   Yes, it's often beautiful. Sometimes unpredictable. But it's static. Fixed within that moment in time. Much like what happens to us in our lives when we find ourselves passing our days in rhythms, habits or relationships that have become so imbedded in our everyday routines and expectations that we don't even notice that they're there. Not really.   But. All it takes it to experience and discover the possibility of change is within your reach. All it requires is a tiny, light touch of the lens of the kaleidoscope for a second. And in that miniscule moment, even if only one crystal shifts, you discover a brand new, fresh, and unexpected picture.   Of new possibilities, new horizons, new relationships, new words, new ideas. A fresh, new way of being.   It's just that simple. And profound.   Our lives and our days are a living, breathing kaleidoscope of potential change within our grasp and understanding. All that is required for us to make that change, any change, no matter how small or great, is to explore the fresh landscape waiting for us to consider, implement and nurture.   About the Coach Olive Gallagher is a published author and award-winning life and relationship coach who helps individuals and couples find clarity, improve communication, and rediscover productivity and balance in their personal and professional relationships.
